Inquiries for participation are welcome.
Participants will consult with the artist to discuss their significant image of "elsewhere." Images for the project should consist of a photo that you have taken someplace else that has remained in your memory. Your source image can be of a landscape or place, from any time in your life, that still resonates with you. From this image, I will produce a painting (approximately 60 x 80cm) that preserves the photographic qualities of the original. Shifts in scale will be considered to suit the domestic spaces where they will be installed.
The idea for the project is to explore the role that photo-based memories play in contemporary life. I am interested in how a significant memory of an "elsewhere", through the language of painting, effects participants' daily experience in their domestic interiors. The project necessitates that the paintings be photographed after installation in the participants' homes for a published book project concerning the social role of painting. Participants will commission an oil painting of the photograph in a scale appropriate to the photographic source image as well as the space where the work would be installed. The cost of participation for the Europe-based series is €2,500. The painting will belong to the participants, though the artist retains the right to the documentation of the work once completed and installed in participants homes.
